XBRL US member volunteers are the driving force helping to set the strategic direction of the organization. All members have the opportunity to join one of three primary steering committees: the Communication Steering Committee, the Domain Steering Committee or the Member Services Steering Committee. Committees are elected annually through a vote by member organizations. Each steering committee may also have activity-specific working groups which members also have an opportunity to join.
XBRL US is currently governed by a 15-member Board of Directors, with annual nominations and voting by XBRL US member companies.
Communications Steering CommitteeThe Communication Steering Committee works to make XBRL the foundation of all business reporting. Its mission is to facilitate the adoption of XBRL by the business reporting supply chain. This encompasses facilitation of press contacts, interviews, conferences and meetings, release of case studies, and outreach efforts to potential adopter communities.
This facilitation includes providing communication, outreach efforts and marketing support for development projects, events and for positioning and communicating about XBRL US.

Domain Steering CommitteeDrawing upon the collective knowledge and domain expertise of the XBRL US community, the Domain Steering Committee's primary goal is to oversee the development of taxonomies to meet the business reporting needs of key markets in the United States.
Building a taxonomy involves bringing together domain experts to define terms or concepts used for business reporting, and then structuring that information in an XBRL-compliant fashion to create a digital dictionary in XBRL. The blend of accounting/finance and technical XBRL expertise is one of the keys to the success of the Domain Steering Committee.
responsibilities of the Domain Steering Committee include reviewing and establishing the business requirements for the XBRL specification, participating in the development of global taxonomy architecture best practices, and participating in the development of taxonomy development and approval processes.
