Program finalized for XBRL US National Conference

The full conference agenda is now available for "XBRL Financial Reporting: Advancing Transparency, Transforming the Dialogue" to be held on November 17-18, 2009 in New York City. Presentations will focus on helping issuers gain a practical understanding of the new XBRL reporting requirements for public companies and on improving communication between public companies and investors through data and technology standards. Keynote speakers featured at the conference will be from CFA Institute, SEC, FEI, NIRI, FINRA and DTCC. The conference is geared to public company preparers, investors, analysts, investor relations officers, corporate secretaries and securities lawyers.

XBRL Essentials offers practical training for financial executives; sessions featured at National Conference

Part of the XBRL US National Conference agenda, this series of high-level training sessions helps financial executives understand the new SEC reporting requirements, how XBRL will impact their companies and provides practical training they can put to use immediately. Led by XBRL experts, sessions cover how to create XBRL-formatted financials (detailed footnote tagging, mapping financials, SEC validation), best practices and an in-depth evaluation of the first wave of filings under the SEC's XBRL mandate. XBRL US Member Meetings to be held November 17; Annual Meeting precedes the opening of the XBRL US National Conference

The 2009 XBRL US Annual Meeting will be held for XBRL US members on Tuesday, November 17 at 11:00 am ET. Prior to the Annual Meeting, XBRL US Steering Committee Meetings will take place and all members are invited to sit in on these meetings as observers.

New white paper presents discussion topics and case studies from XBRL US Technology Workshop

On July 28-30, 2009, XBRL US held its first Pacific Rim XBRL Technology Workshop to bring together XBRL and XML practitioners from the U.S., Europe and Asia to brainstorm, share ideas and learn from each other about the underlying technology and process to build XBRL applications. As a follow up to the event, a discussion paper has been created that outlines the case studies presented and key findings from this workshop. Topics include:
  • Update on XBRL US projects
  • XBRL for corporate actions announcements
  • Accounting standards convergence - taxonomy comparison framework for EDINET, IFRS and US GAAP

Free educational webinar series helps filers get ready for SEC mandate

XBRL US continues its ongoing series of free live webinars designed to help companies implement XBRL reporting. The program includes key steps, decisions and considerations for implementing XBRL, an overview of the SEC rule that requires XBRL for public company reporting, how to use a taxonomy and demonstrations on how create XBRL-formatted financial statements. The next webinars will be held on October 21 and November 19, 2009.

SEC Reporting
SEC posts staff observations from review of first wave of interactive data financial statements

The staff in the SEC's Office of Interactive Disclosure has completed an initial evaluation of the XBRL submissions under the Commission's new rules relating to interactive data for financial reporting and has posted their observations on the SEC website. The observations cover matters filers should consider to further improve the quality of their future submissions including rendering, element selection, context references, negative values and negated labels, decimals and other information.
